Grace Kelly *Style Icon* V&A Exhibition

The Victoria & Albert Museum in London are holding a special exhibition over the summer 2010 dedicated to 1950's actress Grace Kelly. The exhibition will be showcasing Grace Kelly's spectacular wardrobe and will feature fabulous costumes from some of her most famous films and her famous Oscar gown in 1955.

The collection highlights the glamour, beauty and elegance of 1950's Hollywood fashion and the evolution of Kelly's style as Princess Grace of Monaco, and her enduring appeal as a fashion icon.

The publicity surrounding the exhibition have influenced the look and trends featured in many Spring/Summer 2010 Couture collections.

From looking at the Spring/Summer 2010 Couture collections there are clear influences and inspirations that have been drawn from some of the fabulous garments similar to those featured in the exhibition and a clear 1950's Hollywood theme.

Christian Dior Couture Spring/Summer 2010 (above) has used lustre finished fabrics to reflect the glamour and beauty of the 1950's Hollywood look.
The pleated detailing on the bustier adds a simple, elegant and classic look to the garment, and is reminiscent of the Grace Kelly gown featured below.

Christian Dior followed through the Grace Kelly theme in the Spring/Summer 2010 Couture collection (Above) by featuring garments with intricate and detailed lace, imitating the delicate antique lace on Kelly's gown (below)

Chanel Couture Spring/Summer 2010 collection featured ruching or gathering is a key construction detail commonly found in 50s styling (above)

From looking at the excitement and publicity surrounding the exhibition and the strong 1950's Hollywood influences seen on the catwalk for Spring/Summer 2010 collections it seems Vintage style and 1950's glamour, in particular the iconic style of Grace Kelly, will be a big look this Summer.
